Census Data Released
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Benton County has become the second most-populous county in Arkansas over the past 10 years.
The data, released for Arkansas on Feb. 11, also places Rogers as the eighth largest city in the state with 55,924, up 17,135 people from ninth place in 2000.
The state enjoyed a 9.1 percent increase in population since 2000, totaling 2,915,918 people.
Benton County reported 44.3 percent growth over the decade, totaling 221,339. Pulaski County grew by 5.9 percent to 382,748, while Washington County enjoyed a 28.8 percent increase to 203,065. Rounding out the top five counties was Sebastian County with 125,744, an increase of 9.3 percent, and Faulkner County with an increase of 31.6 percent for a total of 113,237.
Little Rock claimed the top spot of the five most populous incorporated places with a population of 193,524, followed by Fort Smith (86,209), Fayetteville (73,580), Springdale (69,797) and Jonesboro (67,263).
