This Memorial Day, we celebrate the unwavering spirit of our veterans with a heartwarming tribute. Dianne Minney-Gammill, a Mercy nurse with deep military roots, has turned a simple Memorial Day decoration into an everlasting homage to our veterans at Mercy Hospital Fort Smith. The walls, now lined with photos of veterans from all walks of life, tell enduring stories of valor and sacrifice, creating a permanent reminder of the strength and resilience of those who served. “Some discoveries are too urgent to ignore.” Dr. Katie Schroeder and Mercy’s gastroenterology team took that message all the way to Washington, D.C. this past weekend as part of Digestive Disease Week. The global gathering brings together the best and brightest minds in the GI field to discuss breakthroughs and share stories. Dr. Schroeder, who presented on the topic, was joined by Drs. Paul Buse, Laura Ulmer and Zubair Khan at the premier event. #DDW2024 #BeGutsy Photo 1: Dr. Katie Schroeder (center) presenting at the 2024 DDW event in Washington, D.C., alongside providers from Northwestern Medicine. When Brian, a father of four young children, suddenly lost his ability to speak and began acting erratically, his wife Lori’s heart sank with fear. Brian's life hung in balance until a crucial clot removal procedure at Mercy. Miraculously, Lori found him sitting up and smiling in the ICU shortly after— a stark reminder of how quickly life can change and the critical importance of rapid stroke care. #StrokeMonth

We've seen 500 patients with stroke symptoms in the ER at #MercyOKC since the new CT suite opened just three months ago. You may remember this new CT suite was made possible by Oklahoma philanthropist, Herman Meinders, who fully funded the $2.6 million project. In stroke care, we say "time is brain." Before we had this new CT, our average door-to-treatment time for stroke patients was 43 minutes, still well below the national gold standard of 60 minutes. Today, it's 27 minutes! An estimated 1.9 million brain cells die every minute when someone is having a stroke, so these are life-altering minutes we have been able to save because of Herman Meinders. THANK YOU MEINDERS FAMILY! They have made a lifesaving impact on countless patients as the largest donor in Mercy Oklahoma history, with more than $18 million in gifts to Mercy since 2018.

Today, Dillion celebrates not just EMS Week, but his incredible recovery during Stroke Month as well. Read more: https://ow.ly/kG7y50RN73k
