If you have metastatic breast cancer (MBC), you’ll be monitored regularly to see if the cancer is responding to treatment. Receptor status can direct precise treatments, but it may vary within and between tumors, and may even change. Over time, tumors can become resistant to treatment. When treatments for MBC stop working, it may be due to a change in the receptor status of the tumor. For instance, the hormone receptor status of the tumor may change, which would then lead to a change in the course of treatment.
