NWA Space and Science advances STEM education and community science engagement across Northwest Arkansas by providing accessible learning resources, hands-on programs, and shared spaces that connect people with science in practical and engaging ways. We view space as a powerful medium for studying all of the sciences—from physics and engineering to geology, chemistry, and Earth systems—making complex concepts tangible and relevant for learners of all ages. A core part of our work currently in development is a research-focused Astronomy Library and an educational Geology Collection, both preparing to open to the public later this year. The Astronomy Library includes reference materials, historical works, and technical resources supporting astronomy, space science, and observational study. The Geology Collection features mineral specimens and earth science materials used for education, interpretation, and hands-on learning. These collections are designed to serve students, educators, hobbyists, and lifelong learners across the region. NWA Space and Science also delivers community science programming, including public star gatherings, telescope-based observing events, and STEM education programs developed in collaboration with local schools and partner organizations. These programs emphasize participation, skill-building, and applied science learning. Our long-term vision is to establish a Science Center in Northwest Arkansas—a permanent, community-anchored destination that features an observatory, planetarium, collections, exhibits, and programs dedicated to science education. The upcoming library and geology collection, along with our outreach programs, represent early building blocks toward that vision while serving immediate community needs.
